Seeing the unseen

Reflection &
Theological Musing

Seeing, thinking, and wrestling with the things of God.

There are things happening around us every moment that we rarely notice.

Blood flows through our veins. Air fills our lungs. Our hearts beat while we sleep. The earth turns beneath our feet. The sun rises and sets.

We don't see most of these things happening.

Yet they are real.

And perhaps this is also true of the most important reality of all.

God is at work.

God's presence is not always visible.

His voice is not always audible. His activity is not always obvious. Yet Scripture continually reminds us that what is unseen is not necessarily unreal.

There is a reality beyond what our eyes can see and our senses can perceive—a reality in which God is present, active, sustaining, revealing, correcting, comforting, and transforming.

Sometimes we catch a glimpse of it in the ordinary. Sometimes through His Word. Sometimes through creation. Sometimes through another person, suffering, an unexpected conversation, a quiet moment, a prayer, or a question that refuses to leave us.

“We live by faith, not by sight.”
2 Corinthians 5:7

These are the journeys I am currently exploring.

Thoughts that point beyond themselves. These writings are not intended to be definitive theological treatises. They are musings and reflections that emerge from reading God's Word, observing His creation, reflecting on His work in the world, and trying to understand what it means to follow Him faithfully in everyday life.

Sometimes Scripture answers the questions we bring to it. Sometimes it asks questions of us.

These reflections are my attempt to slow down long enough to listen—to read familiar words again, to wrestle with questions I don't always know how to answer, and to pay attention to the things I might otherwise overlook.

And perhaps, in listening, we may begin to notice something that has been there all along:

God is here.

“For in him we live and move and have our being.”
Acts 17:28

The reflections aren't necessarily about discovering something new. Sometimes they are about learning to see something that was already there.

Pause. Look beyond what you can see. And let's reflect together.
